ROCKFORD, IL — As Covid-19 restrictions are slowly being lifted, small businesses across Rockford, the state of Illinois, and the nation, are opening up and ready for business. After having to lay off employees, shut down operations, and endure the pandemic, small businesses across the globe have been devastated.

Jen Ralston, Owner of Bath and Body Fusion, sponsored the production of this video as a reminder and encouragement for area consumers to first think of local small businesses that are finally open and ready for shoppers.

Tom McNamara, Mayor of Rockford, IL said, “The state deemed big box stores essential. We here in Rockford have always known our local stores are truly essential. Now is the time for Rockfordians to invest in local Rockford-owned businesses. I’m urging all citizens, please, when you’re out purchasing goods and services, first think local. Your dollars stay in our community far longer and you’ll get more out of that service than you can imagine.”

Chris Manuel, Co-Founder and CEO of Prairie St. Brewing Co., said, “When we heard the news the day we had to pretty much shut down and lay off 90% of our employees, it was gut-wrenching. We’re eager to continue to open up.”

Janene Stephens, Owner of Janenes Event Design Studio.Social Cafe, said, “Our opening day was March 14th. Three days later, my business was closed.”

Joe D’Astice, Owner of Woodfire Brick Oven Pizza, said, “No one expected to be shut down for over two months.”

Jen Ralston, Owner of Bath & Body Fusion and sponsor of this video, said, “It got very scary for us. As a small business you just don’t have the resources for when something this drastic hits. We donated over 8,000 jars of Dream Cream to our healthcare heroes, but in the last three weeks, our sales have completely fallen off. Now more than ever we need your support.”

Sandi Kohn, Owner of 510 Threads, said, “We love our beautiful little town and we hope you guys all come down and shop local.”

Jarrod Hennis, Owner of Rockford Art Deli, said, “Most businesses right now it’s their peak season. We need everyone as much as possible to come out and keep supporting. We’ve donated close to $100,000 to 400 local businesses.”

Tamika Brown, Owner of Infinite Soul Vibrations, said, “Let’s come together as a community. We need each other right now more than we ever have.”
